Slipper pattern

Hi to everyone reading this, I'm just trying to do a slipper pattern here and I can't seem to understand how to do the instruction on increasing the stitches.
Slippers with 4mm needle cast on 21 sts and beg at back of heel.
1st Row:(RS)P1,*k1,p1, rep from* to end.
2nd Row:K1,*p1,k1,rep from* to end.
Rep these 2 rows to form single rib 8 times more.

Now here is where I get confuse...
Shape Sides:
Next Row:(RS) Cast on 18 sts, (p1,k1) 9 times over these sts, rib to end as set.

How do I cast on these extra stitches?
Please help, I appreciate any input with these thanks.

There is more than one way of course, to do this. But I prefer the knitting on method or cable cast on when I have to increase on the edge itself.

Real easy: the videos are a littel further down in the list, underneath the long section for the first video.

I would recommend the knitting on (less likely to leave holes at those stitches).

oh, by the way: If I need to cast the stitches on at the END of my needle for a pattern, I still just turn my work and cast on (extra stitches) this way.

Another version would be to use the crochet cast on, but the ones in the videos will do great!

You can use the knit cast on. With the sts in the L hand as if you were going to start a new row, knit into the first st, but leave it on the needle and put the new st on the needle. Repeat until you have 18 new sts and work them in the rib pattern, then work the original sts.

I would recommend knitting on (as suzeeq said) or chain cast on.
Or corcheting on.

the last one I don't know a video for but you can google it.
Knitting on would be my favorite of those 3 ones. It is easy, good looking, stretchy, quick, no extra tools, no risk of big holes.
