I Use YOs to Estimate for Long Tail
I'll wrap twelve YO on my needle then measure that length against the needle for every ten stitches I need in the CO. If you are more loose in your knitting you may need 13 or 15 YO for every ten stitches of your long tail cast on. A tighter knitter may only need 10 or 9 YO to every 10 stitches of long tail CO.
