I'm new with a Pattern Question?
I am knitting a headband. Here's the pattern:

CO 3 st

Row 1 (RS): K1, M1L, pm, k1, pm, M1R, K1-5

I know how to work all of these stitches, however how do I M1L in the first row? There is no bar to work with in between the stitches. Plus, Since I only CO 3 stitches, I cannot finish ROW 1, right?

I am so confused

Use the backward loop M1 and don't worry about which direction it 'leans'. The m1s go between stitches so you k1, loop inc, k1, loop inc and k1. There's the 3 sts made into 5.

you are right: there is no chance to knit another 5 stitches after the second increase.
Are you sure that that is still row 1? because it would sound good as row 2 (WS)...

Noooo, the -5 at the end doesn't mean k5 more sts, it's telling you that you now have 5 stitches. It would say 'k5' if that's what you're to do.
