Knitting pattern help
I am in the middle of a pattern. My new piece started with casting on 28sts. The next row asked me to purl. I completed both and am now on the next row, an increase row. The instructions are as follows:
k1, (m1, k2) to last st, m1, k1
This should give me 44st. However I only get 42. I'm not sure if I am going wrong or the pattern is wrong. Please can someone tell me how, by following those instructions, I end up with the desired 44sts.
Thank you
SammyJayne

Are you using a kfb to increase instead of a m1? Or maybe you forgot a m1 somewhere or actually didn't start with 28 sts. Your row should be -
k1, inc, k2, inc, k2, inc etc, and after the last k2, you should have 1 st left, increase before it, then knit it.

Thank you for your help. I have done exactly that, and I did start with the 28sts, but still I only end up with 44 sts in the end. I posted the question on another forum and a couple of people have said the pattern is incorrect. Ive tried it 3 times and written it out on paper but still get the same result. I am definitely doing the m1. Any Ideas?
Thanks

It would help a lot if you could link the pattern or a picture and at what point you are and what comes after you're supposed to have 44 sts. One of the numbers is wrong in the pattern, either the 28 or the 44.

I think maybe 42 sts is right. To do the first dec row you need a multiple of 4 +2 and 44 doesn't work, but 42 does, so go with that number.

Hi Sue
Thank you for spending the time to look over the pattern. I will work on the assumption that the 44sts stated in the pattern is incorrect and will work to the 42sts that I get for doing the increase row. I will look at the pattern as a whole next time something like this pops up, just as you did. I am a self taught knitter has learnt everything for online tutorials and books wish that I had somebody close to turn to for help. But now it seems that I have found a great source of help and support which will make things alot easier. The pattern is for a cuddly toy for my little girl, she will be so excited when I finish it, as will I.

I taught myself to knit too, eons ago, but there weren't any self published patterns and less decs or incs to figure out so it may have been easier.
