converting from knitting piece by piece to one piece

I am basically a lazy knitter and want to convert a sweater pattern from me having to knit it one piece at a time and than sewing the seams to knitting it all in one piece. Can this be done and if so how?

Generally, yes. You would start by casting on the total number of stitches rather than just the amount for the front (for example) and join to work in the round. There may be some other adaptations needed as well ... it would help if you had a link to a pattern, then people might be able to give you more specifics.

Yes, cast on the sts for the front and back and work in one piece to the underarms, then knit the back and front flat following the armhole and shoulder shaping instructions as in the original pattern. You didn't say if it's a pullover or a cardigan, but either will work well with this method.
