Help with this skirt pattern

OK, so here's the instructions and I cannot figure it out!!! I'm a novice....

CO 128 St.
Work in St. st. for 8 rows, ending with WS row.
K8, (k16, k2tog) 8 times, knit to end of row--(120 sts.)

THe problem is that I did the st st for 8 rows then K8, then k16, k2tog 8 times but I don't have enough stitches? I have 128 stitches and if I have to do the k8, then k16, k2tog 8 times that's too many stitches!! What am I missing here? Help!
