I am trying to knit two socks at the same time on two circular needles.
I am having a problem with gapping on the sides of the socks. I try to pull the stitches tight but the needles kind of flop around a bit (having never done this before) and the wool I'm using is slightly stretchy which is wonderful to work with in most ways but I'm wondering if that is contributing to the difficulty with gaps.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me? I have tried a couple of times and keep pulling it out and trying again but I'm wondering if there is some trick to this that I'm not grasping. In the pattern book she (Antje Gillingham) says to join the round by tying a knot and that seems a bit odd to me but that's what I've done as that is what she says to do.
And er....no, I hadn't gone as far as a couple of inches. I just pulled it out again, I should have come and checked for responses first!
It is a much finer yarn than I am used to working with either. Though it's beautiful one, a merino.
I had wondered if it's because the cables are kind of stiff. At the yarn shop she said it might be easier to work with bamboo needles because the cables are not as inflexible but she was out of the bamboo in the size I needed.
Not sure if that would make a difference or not. I have realized it's not the end where I initially closed the round, it's the other side of the sock where the gap forms.
