Confused

I'm making a sock monkey from patons. I'm just a little confused about how to join the legs and start the body. Instructions are as follows:
Beginning at marked stitch of one leg, knit 24 of first leg. Knit 24 of second leg, join in round. (48 st)
I'm confused because both are 24 stitches each and are in the round so how do I continue knitting. Do I join on a flat needle, knit and then join? Please help I'm really confused . Thanks!

You'll have to use dpns or a circular needle. Knit the sts all around one leg, then knit the sts of the other leg onto the same needle or use another dpn. From then on you're going to knit in the round. You can't join or knit in the round on a single pointed straight needle.
