Here's a small project to learn with - it's a dishcloth. so if you mess up and need to start over, it's not so big to be daunting. Or if you mess up and keep going, it's just a dishcloth so who cares if it's not perfect. Plus it's garter stitch, so that's one less thing to keep track of, no real stitch pattern to have to remember.

Can't remember the author, but A to Z of Knitting has a pretty good entrelac tutorial.
