I have some alpaca fleece that I bought earlier this year and am just now getting to it. I has quite a lot of VM in it and I'm not sure how to get it out. Way too much to pick out by hand. Any advice? Thanks!
Try taking small clumps of the fiber and shaking it. You can also comb or card the bits out. If you don't have fiber combs or carders, regular comb will work, as do dog slickers.
Okay, thanks. I do have hand cards, but not having much luck getting it out, so I did try a slicker and it worked. I was just checking to see if there was a more efficient way, since I'm new to this.
If you have a heavily VM fleece, you will pick out the VM before & after scouring, during the carding/combing, while you're spinning & during knitting/crocheting/weaving.
