Increasing 1 stitch at each end of needle

Pattern is for a dog sweater and reads "inc 1 st each end of needle on 3rd and each of the following next 4 rows." If I increase 2 stitches on a row, I believe that the pattern of Row 1: K4 *P1. K5. Rep from * to last 4 sts. P1. K3. Row 2: P4. *K1. P5. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K1. P3. , will not be correct ( sitting above each other). The way I read the pattern doesn't include the extra stitches or that I need not worry that the pattern of knitting P1 & K5 as well as K1 P5 sit above each other.
I always think I can do anything, but, I really am still learning.
