Acrylic dragon?

I just found this pattern at ravelry for a dragon hat http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dragon-hat-4 and it calls for cotton yarn. Do you think it would work up well in acrylic? I have to see what cotton colors I have hanging around, I'm sure I have enough colors in acrylic.

I've worked with a few brands of acrylic (not my first choice, but sometimes required one way or another), and the stitch definition shown in the photo of the dragon hat may not be available in acrylic. The Lion's Brand cotton she suggests is fairly available (Joann's, for sure; don't know about others), so it may already be in your stash.

Otherwise, if stitch definition isn't important (and, for this project, it may not be), have at it!

Thanks all! It's cold, it's snowing, I'm watching for school closures, I'm not going anywhere for a few days, I'm not sure what cotton yarns I have on hand.....and I wanted something different and fun to try. The kids can't wear wool.

And, for the record, I'm a weather wuss. I don't envy people who live where snow and ice are the norm all winter.
