The project I'm currently working on calls for a 3-needle bind off. I've only ever done kitchener stitch, but I read up on the 3-needle bind-off and I'm pretty familiar with how to do it. The problem is that my project is being knitted on size 6 needles, but I don't have a third size 6 needle to do the bind-off with. Can I just use a 5 or a 7 and get similar results?
I think the larger needle is a good idea. Another way is to move one set of stitches to a smaller needle. The size of the needle holding the stitches doesn't matter and it can be easier to work them off a smaller needle.
I just did a three needle bind off for a hood. My needles were 8's and I did the bind off with a double pointed 5. I was impressed that the ridge looked flatter. Think I'll do it with a needle several sizes smaller from now on.
