Pattern help please!

Hello I'm struggling can anyone help?

My pattern says:

Next row (increase): Rib 4, Inc in each of next 26 STD
My understanding of rib 4 Is that I k1k1p1p1? Then I increase over the next 26 am I still doing a rib or am knitting?

Any help much appreciated

Yes that's what you do. Whether you knit or rib the next 26sts as you are increasing depends on the directions for the following rows and on the item you're making.

It's an aron cardigan after this I change needles and it calls it 1st row and becomes quite complicated! So I'm still confused about what stitch I'm doing as I increase it really doesn't say! When ribbing do I k1p1 or k2p2 seem to be getting conflicting opions on the net.

Since you're increasing in each of the next 26sts, I don't see any reason to try to maintain either kind of rib. I would go to knit sts across the increase area. This row will be unnoticeable as you knit the aran patterns.

After the increase row, do you go to a stockinette stitch or other stitch pattern? That's why you may not need to worry about keeping the inc sts in a pattern
