I'm making Diana's Trail Socks from a pattern in the 2005 Knitting Pattern A Day calendar (June 27). I'm at the "Turn Heel" point and I don't understand why I have 8 stitches left on the needle when it says to turn.
When I finished the Heel Flap I had 30 stitches on the needle but the way I read the "Turn Heel" section, Row 1 only works 22 of those stitches.
The pattern says:
Turn Heel:
Row 1: Sl 1, K18, SSK, K1, turn.
Row 2: Sl 1, P9, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 3: Sl 1, K10, SSK,K1, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1, P11, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 5: Slip1, K12, SSK, K1,turn.
Row 6: Slip 1, P13, P2tog, P1, turn.
Continue in this manner until all sts have been worked and 20 sts remain.
(Please note this is copied verbatim--including no spaces where there should be spaces and sl spelled out some places and not others.)
If anyone has any thoughts--or better yet a copy of this pattern from another source that has different heel turning directions--I'd very much appreciate your help. This is my first sock; up until this it's been fun.
Once you figure this out, it WILL BE FUN AGAIN!!! Seriously, turning a heel is the coolest thing when you see it happening. Good luck, stick with it, and let us know how it turns out! :D

Thanks. I did notice it was available on CD but I'm one of those "gotta have it now" folks. I found a Sock Class on line where Kristin shows how to do each step with photos. It was very helpful.
Amy has a great site here so now I'm looking into getting DSL so I can take advantage of her videos.
Do you still have this pattern? I have page one from the pattern a day calendar 2005, but I can't find the 2nd page where it was continued on the next date!
