Color change question
So I'm finally nearing the end of my endless scarf. I just have one question. One of the color stripes goes from purple on each end and fades to yellow in the middle. Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to achieve this look?
Here is how is looks on the pattern:

And here is a sample picture:

Thanks is advace for any help!

That would be created by using variegated/self-striping yarn.

i'm not familiar with that type of yarn (I'm still very new to knitting - this is actually my first project). Where can I find it and how can I make sure to get the color to change at the right places in the stripe?

thanks

It's called self-striping and you can find it in yarn stores or craft stores like Michaels, Joann, Hobby Lobby, etc. It comes in many different fibers and color combinations. If you want specific colors that might be hard to find though and it's difficult to control which colors are next to each other. Sometimes the colors change in the middle of the row, sometimes on the end. The width of your project affects that, too. If you just choose a color family you like and knit it as it comes it's beautiful and easy.

Here's a few ideas.

*update*
Thanks for all the help. Unfortunatly, I could not find self striping yarn in the colours I needed...so I tried my hand at dying my own. I found this very helpful site:

The end results were...not stellar, but I knew measuring anything that precise would be difficult. Still, it doesn't look too bad (especially from afar) and the colouring is pretty much where i want it to be. Thanks again.
