The yo's should shift to make the diamond pattern. How wide is a single diamond pattern at the widest point (where the diamonds touch each other side-to-side)? If 16sts will work for the single diamond, then you don't need to cast on any more. The sleeves look to be one diamond across. The rows 1-4 "reset the pattern", that is, they're showing you where to place the diamond. Don't repeat those rows however. The actual pattern rows are the same as the 32 rows you've been using for the diamond pattern.

The diamond is 14 stitches wide.

Are you saying I only need to do the CO16 for two rows once?
