Novice knitter, need help!

You come to the end the eyelet round at the last 3 sts: knit 2 together, yo (that uses 2 of the 3 sts) and then knit together the third stitch with the first st of the next round. The instructions tell you where to reset the marker for the next instructions

"Eyelet round: K2, P1 *K2, YO, K2tog, K1, P1* to last 3 stitches; K2 YO; at the end of the eyelet round you will K2tog with the final stitch of this round and the first stitch of the next round to achieve the correct number of stitches. You will need to move the stitch marker to between the YO and the K2tog stitch, making the final YO the last stitch of the eyelet round and the K2tog the first the first stitch of the next round."

Thanks, now it says to K2 P1 for the next few rounds. When I made the first round I ended in a knit not a purl. So I'm not sure whether to just start the next round in a purl or not?

The last st of the round was knit together with the first of the next round and the st marker moved. If the pattern says begin k2p1, then that's what you should do starting with a k2. See if that gives you the pattern that you see in the picture. What part of the soaker is this?

I think this is the waistband of the soaker. After the eyelet round it said to work k2 p1 for the next few rounds. I made one round but it ended in a knit. What did I do wrong?

Well my daughter just tore apart my hard work. I have to restart now.

You might have added an extra yo on the eyelet round, so you would have an extra stitch.

I counted my stitches 3 times and it came out 72 stitches which is what the pattern calls for. The pattern said that the eyelet round ended with a YO and the next started with the K2tog and then it said to work K2, P1. Would that make 3 knits and 1 purl in the start? Or do I count the K2tog stitch and work another knit then purl?

Okay, the k2tog takes a stitch from the end of the round and beginning of round. But I think you would just stop the k2, p1 round after the p1, and that's where the marker would go.

You know what, what if I just make the eyelet round a normal k2 p1 and keep going with the work? I'm too confused and by the time I understand she probably won't fit into them. Lol

Check over your sts and make sure it's k2p1 around (72 is divisible by 3 so it should come out even, that is, finish with a p1). If it all look ok. just press on with the few rows in k2p1. You're right, this is time sensitive material!
