writting a scarf pattern open work
I am writing a scarf pattern using a traditional openwork lace pattern I have in a guide book. In my first row I knit 4 st, yo sl 2 st k 1 pass over 2 sl st yo and then the open work pattern says "7 stitches in 1 st: alternately k1, yo, end with k1. On WS knit all stitches."

I'm confused about the first part of the instructions in quotes from my book. Am I knitting all 7 st together or just alternating k1 yo ending with a k1? (I know this is weird. I'm writing the pattern but don't get the instructions for the lace work part.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This - 7 stitches in 1 st: alternately k1, yo, end with k1.- means you're going to k yo k yo k yo k to get 7 sts in that single stitch. You don't knit them together at any time, it's to increase the stitch number.
