What is the best length cord for socks
Hello friends,

I am about ready to knit socks. I have a set of circulars, and the pattern calls for size 2 which I have.

However generally speaking, what length should the cord be? 24 inch, 16 inch,,,,??

Oh and I am loving the magic loop and use it faithfully!!!

Thank you everyone for your help.

I think it just depends upon the method that you'll be using to make socks. I know that if you're using circulars you can use either 2 circs or 1 and do ml. The book that I had gotten to learn how to make two socks at once(which I have yet to try lol) recommended 40" circs, but I'm not sure if the same go for just mling one sock. Either way good luck!!

The answer should be that it's personal choice. I much prefer a 40" cable. I am using 32 right now and it's doable in a pinch, but it's not my favorite.I feel like it stretches the stitches out too far on the loop ends while they are waiting to be knit. I don't have any trouble with 40" cables.

I do 2 at a time and prefer the 47" length. This gives plenty of room with no stretch on the stitches.
