Adapting this pattern for larger size

Hello,

I pasted a link below that links to this pattern. However, please click on the hat picture for the pattern.

This hat is for a "preamie baby cap" however I want to knit this for a toddler. Can someone explain to me how to increase this pattern? How do I know what to increase it by (the number of castons and/or # of rows.

You'll need to increase both the sts cast on and the rows that you knit.
In general, you use your gauge to convert the inches you want for your size into the number of sts you'll need to cast on. This chart gives an idea of the number of inches for the circumference of the hat and also the inches you'll need for the height of the hat.

If the pattern uses the fixation yarn which is dk with size 5 needles, use a worsted and size 7 or 8 needles. You probably only need to make it a couple of inches larger. I know, the crazy thing is in order to get to the pattern you need to click on the hat picture about middle ways down the page. I can't get a link to the pattern for the life of me

I don't see a hat picture on that page, just the ones of the yarn colors. If you can get to it again, right click on the picture and choose 'copy image location' and paste that into your post.
