knit across

Hello all! I am a brand new knitter, and am having problems understanding my first pattern. It says to knit across 24, but there are only 19 stitches left in this row. Am I supposed to cast on 5 more stitches at the end?

What is the pattern that you're doing? Can you post a link to it or tell us the name of the pattern? If not, could you quote just a few lines (not the entire pattern) near where the problem is?

It would help if we had more information. There are thousands of patterns. What are you making, what is the name of it and can you post a link?
