This is the first time I come across this kind of stitching. Has anyone have any idea what it is?

It looks very similar Miniature Herringbone Stitch:

It's vertical herringbone stitch. I think it can be applied into ribbing, and it can be wide or narrow.

Thank you so much for your swift reply. The vertical herringbone stitch you linked to does not look like that what I am trying to replicate... perhaps you sent the wrong link?

I meant to replicate the dark grey stitch, specifically the part i cropped here. It is the end of the cuff and the waist band stitching... It looks a bit like woven fabric threads...

Yeah, the link shows a wide version of the vertical herringbone stitch. But if you GOOGLE the term "vertical herringbone stitch" or "vertical herringbone rib stitch" you will get many links for it. Plus, there are many images that show how other knitters have applied the stitch to ribbing, narrow and wide....and to wider fields of knitting like sweaters.

Ravelry has a free pattern for socks that use vertical herringbone rib. You could easily apply the instructions in the sock pattern to the cuffs of a jacket.

Remember, depending on the weight of yarn & needle size, the vertical herringbone rib will vary in appearance. The sweater you posted looks like worsted weight yarn, and maybe a US5 or US6 needle, giving it a very compact pudgy look. Kinda all crunched in there.

Here are some herringbone rib fingerless mitts. The pattern stitch is over 12 stitches, but you cutoff easily expand that for the number of cuff stitches required.
