Mohair & Silk Yarn

I began a lacy scarf using mohair & silk yarn on #9 needles and the pattern is simply --* knit 3, and with Left needle bring 1st stitch over the last 2 sts, yarn in front, repeat from * It is impossible to "grab" the 1st of the 3 knit sts in order to bring over. This is supposed to be a honycomb pattern, eventually. Any suggestions? (I am an experienced knitter.)

Maybe you could 'grab' it with a crochet hook?

You could also try slipping the stitches back to the left needle and bring the two stitches through the one nearest the tip.
