decrease on insert sleeves
Hey all,
I am fairly new to knitting. I've done a few scarves and ponchos, and now i decided to start on a sweater. I really love this forum, been reading on it a lot before i decided to take on this project! I am trying to figure out the pattern I decided to try, and so far there is only one thing I don't understand.
It says:
"cast of 7 stitches in the next 4 rows"
Does it mean a few stitches every row (during those 4 rows) so in total 7, OR 7 stitches every next 4 rows so 4x7 = 28 stitches in total decrease?
Thx so much in advance for all the suggestions!

Sounds like BO 7 sts on each of the next 4 rows. Does it give a stitch count later on that would fit with losing 28 sts? Also look at the picture to see if that matches the instructions.
A link to the pattern or its name would help us, and also where you are in the pattern, what you've done.

It's usually "cast off stitches at the beginning of the next 4 rows" as in a cast off for the shoulder shaping. That would make it a cast off of 28sts total. Which pattern are you making and is this the the shoulder shaping?

Thank you so much for the fast reply!
It didn't say "at the beginning of the next 4 rows", that is why i am confused. It doesn't have a stitch count either... It's a pattern from a 2nd hand book I bought recently. I love the look of the sweater, but the pattern is rather short in explanation. If it helps i can type it here.

As long as you're at the shoulder shaping, where binding off so many sts is not unusual, I think that it's ok.
Bind off the first 7sts, work to the end of the row, turn as you normally do at the end of the row, bind off the first 7sts and work to the end of the row. Turn again and repeat the bind off at the baginning of the next 2 rows. You'll have bound off 28sts total.
Are you at the shoulder shaping or is there more going on?

Oh, I am so blind! It does have a stitch count after all, it just wasn't clear to me... I feel so silly...
It is indeed for the shoulder shaping, so that's what is going on.
Thank you all for the quick help!
