Unknitting "tink"

When I "tink" my stitches are alway twisted when they go back onto the left needle. Why?

It depends on how you put the left needle in. But when you redo the row, if you just knit or purl into the leg closest to the needle tip on every stitch, you don't have turn the stitches and they come out untwisted.

Yes, if you insert the needle from the front your sts should be correctly aligned on the left needle. I like GG's video because it shows tinking knits and purls. Here's another for just knits.

I was putting my needle from back to front and not from front to back.

This is actually an excellent opportunity to learn to recognize the "feel" of a twisted stitch when you put your needle into it to knit. The needle won't slide into the stitch the same as if it is correctly oriented and you can catch it now instead of looking and seeing a twisted stitch many rows back.
