Frustrated with knotted yarn

Check the thrift store, I bet you can find a nice bowl for about 50 cents, even without it having a slit in it.

I call them biohazard bags. When I get done with the bags and the skein of yarn, they do double duty disposing of "land mines" dug out of the cat litter box.

Just don't get them mixed up....

My local small-town grocery still offers paper bags, which I sometimes get because they're so darn useful afterwards (not to mention for carrying in the groceries--less trips to and from the truck). I often throw a ball or skein of yarn in one of those, and when I'm not working on the project, it sits on top of the yarn.

I'd rather spend my money on yarn and stay low-tech. Meanwhile, those pesky knots are KNOT fun. Generally, they are placed (on purpose, I think) in the most inconvenient places!

I've given up trying to figure out how they know that knot will be right in the middle of a set of pattern stitches but somehow they do.

Here is my yarn bowl. I recycled a container that used to hold biscotti. My hubby used a knife to cut out the O out of the lid and used a fingernail board for smoothing rough edges on fingers, to smooth out the edge of the cut area,I have the lid off of it.

Great idea! What a wonderful way to recycle a perfectly good container.

I always re-roll the skein before I start a project to avoid knots. If I encounter any, I find that using a small needle and sticking it in the middle of the knot gets it out easier than my nails.

But a regular bowl works just as well... I know because my kitchen shelves are missing 2 bowls right now. They are sedately sitting beside my recliner where I do most of my knitting and they hold my yarn for me... one is big for a big ball and the other is smaller. They both work really well.
