Pattern help please
Hi there,

So here goes my first post :-) I am currently knitting Sydney the Owl (free gift from the "Let's Knit" magazine) and I am currently stuck with the wings because I don't know how to read this next bit.

I had to cast on 9 sts, done first and 2nd row but now it says this:

Row3: Sl 1, k2, kfb, k1, kfb, k3. 11sts
Row 4 and 6: sl 1, k1, p to last 2sts, k2
Row5: sl 1, k3, kfb, k1, kfb, k4. 13sts
Row7: sl1, k4, kfb, k1, kfb, k5. 15 sts

What does the number of stitches at the end of row 3, 5 and 7 mean? It's always 2 more but I have no idea where they come from. If I count the stitches I'm supposed to do for row 5 it makes 11. So why does it say 13sts? I am really confused.

Thank you for your help
Sarah

The increases are coming from the "kfb". That's a way of increasing in a stitch and looks like this. I've linked to the english style video but there's also a video for continental on the Glossary tab at the top of the page.
Rows 3, 5, and 7 each have 2 kfb so that'll increase the stitch count by 2 in each of these rows.
Good luck with the owl and let us see a photo when you finish, if you'd like.

Oh right. That makes so much more sense now. Thank you so much.

For some reason I got kfb confused with tbl. I'll post a pic when I'm done. Will be my first project. Hope it will look good :-)

Thanks again

Great! So glad to hear you're off and running (er . . . flying?) with your pattern again.

Can't wait to see your owl! I love owls.

Hi there,

I know it's been a while but had a lot on lately. I've nearly finished my owl now it just needs stuffing and sewn diagonally at both
Top corners for ears. Was thinking of maybe putting a bell or a squeaker inside to make it more fun.

Thanks again for your help
