Now you're shown us line 9 of the pattern I'm even more convinced that 'S' is a mis-print for '5'. Just like on line 10 you have 13 sitiches before the pattern repeat (between the asterisks) and 3 stitches after the pattern repeat. If you subsitute 5 for S in each line you have 25 stitches in both pattern repeats, which go exactly into the 100 remaining stitches your mother will be knitting.

I like to think I'm beginning to think like a real knitter - I do hope it will happen one day. As for you and salmonmac, great minds think alike.

I wish I'd thought of the S should be a 5. I hope it's that simple.
Confession time, I have terrible hand writing and my 5's often look like S's. That's what made me think of it.

Thank You everyone that is helping us out. The misprint would be why I searched the net for 3 hours and came up with Zip! The killer is she can't find her old books so I have gotten this and another one several years back. This and the Red Sox is about all she has left.

I have this booklet right here and all those "S"s are actually "5"s. Row 10 says: "K3, P1, K2, P4, K2, P1, *K5, P5, K5, P1, K2, P4, K2, P1; repeat from *across to last 3 sts, K3.

This is thru the whole pattern, K5, P5, K5 or P5, K5, P5.

Hope this helps. I've got the whole booklet, so let me know if you need anymore help.

I hope so too, I expect it will. If you don't mind and can do so, I'd love to see a photo of the finished afghan.

....we love pictures!....

Terrific! Glad to hear that your mom is back on her way with this pattern. It is a wonderfully relaxing and comforting craft. And now that you've found us, come back anytime. Good to have you both here.
