I'd have to agree with you about the small zip ... who needs fiddly? But a toggle of some sort should work quite nicely, or one of those lovely large rod-shaped wood buttons about an inch long with a loop closure would work well too.

Your beautiful work has inspired me to make myself something other than dishcloths and socks (my side trips from the baby knitting I've been doing of late for others). I adore both, don't get me wrong. But to be as cozy as you are now would be a treat for me this coming winter!
