Decipher mitten pattern
Hello all,

this is my first project for colorwork mittens. I'm having a little trouble with the pattern. See the attached. It says at row 6 to work on the thumb. Do I start the thumb increases where it says No stitch in the pattern? I thought I read to skip the No stitch markings.

Please help. I just love these mittens and I want to make them for a friend.

thanks,
Suze

Hi and welcome to KH. Can you link to the pattern or give us it's name and where you found it? You could post a few rows of the pattern but posting the whole thing runs into copyright issues.

Thanks. Sorry, I thought I uploaded the pattern. I found it on ravelry as a free download by Sarah Arnold. If you don't have a ravelry account I try to do a screen capture of the chart and upload that.

Start the thumb increases just before the heavy red line in the mittern pattern. It looks like you work 24sts on the mitten chart, change to the thumb chart, increase between sts, knit the center st, increase and then continue with the mitten chart. The thumb chart is inserted at the red line and starts on row 6 with the green square with the M in it. You're rigth that "no stitch" means do nothing, skip that box.
Very good looking mittens. They'll be lovely.

Thanks! This is my first time reading this type of chart so I was a little confused. I'll give it another try.

Is it common to have a red line like that to indicate where to start the thumbs? I am confused because it looks like on the thumb chart to start on the 8th stitch of the 6th row, which is way before the red line in the pattern. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,
Suze
