I think that's where you will want to pick up your stitches. I don't know of videos for picking up along an already knitted row, they are probably out there, somewhere. Personally, I'd see how a kfb and move the purled looking stitches to the needle in back would work out. I've used this method for starting pockets w/o seams. You might want to use a smaller size needle if you try the kfb, for me those sitches are always looser. HTH If not, someone else will be able to give you a better answer. That's a really cute pattern.
