beginning knitter. please help
Hello all,

I' m completely confused on how to even begin this pattern. These are the materials listed:

155 yds Cascade Eco Yarn
3 st markers
Size US 10 (6mm) circular needle with 24 cord
Size US 10 (6mm) double pointed needles
36 waste yarn
Cable Needle
Darning needle to sew ends in

And the first step says: "Using provisional cast on CO 13 sts leaving a 20 tail."

My question is, do I use double pointed needles for the provisional cast on or do I use the circular needle? I know that there are two ways to do the provisional cast on. Also, I'm still kind of shaky with the provisional cast on. I've looked up youtube videos and I kind of have the method down, but I don't know what to do after I finish stitching the required number.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome!
is this the pattern?
If so the 13sts are for the cable band and since you're only knitting on 13sts for the entire band, you could use the double points. I find it easier to do a provisional cast on (the one behind the one strand and then two strands) on a straight needle anyway. If you use a crocheted chain for the provisional, either dpns or the cricular will work.
This video shows you how to continue once you've cast on the required number of sts. Essentially, you turn as you would at the end of a row and continue with the pattern.
