I'm not sure I know what you mean. Do you mean your stitches are oriented differently than the so-called norm? If so, maybe just working that one stitch that will get slipped and the yarn pulled over so that it's oriented the other way, or just turn it when you slip it, will make it come out to your liking. It might be more bother than you care for but if you want to try the German short rows you might give it a go and then decide.
ETA Of course that means it will be oriented the other way when you come to it again to pick up all the stitches. Hmmm. It might work out that you like it, it might not.
I should never overestimate my basic arithmetic skills.
