How to adjust gauge for different yarn
Hello - I'm very new to knitting and I tend to find a pattern I like and a yarn I like but the yarn is never suitable for the pattern.
I understand the principle behind the pattern gauge but I don't understand how I can adjust so that I can use the yarn I want.

I have a pattern for a knit slouchy beanie that I want to make. (The pattern is in a book so I can't post the link).

The pattern calls for Medium Weight Yarn (4) but I want to use a heavier weight (5).

Gauge: With larger size needles (which would be a 7), in Stockinette Stitch, 20 sts and 26 rows = 4" (10 cm).

How can I adjust to use the heavier weight yarn?

Many thanks!!
