I've made them that way but have found that if the foot fits right I don't get droopage.

I'm curious and maybe you know. Other than the heel stitch that produces that lovely cushy fabric at the back, isn't this quite similar to a Fleegle heel? I keep intending to really compare them but never get a
I just searched the term Fleegle heel and found the page. This heel is different. I too am on a search for the perfect turn. I was getting a hole at the top of my gusset and this one never makes a hole, so I'm sold on it! (Short rows are for toes!) This is a great heel, but I lack a vocabulary for how it is done. Maybe you know the name of the technique?

I love the arch girdle! I'm steeling that from you!

Drooling over your beautiful socks

where's that round tuit?!
Actually, I'm attempting to modify the pattern you used to my stitch count. I will use a lifeline before I start the short rows. I looked again at the pattern's photo and read through the pattern and I think I understand it. The big difference between this and the faux heel flap I've been doing is that those short rows make a little rounded part that goes round the bottom of the heel. I think. I'd love to see a close up of your heels but if you've other things to do (really? LOL) don't worry about the round tuit. I made some notes in my blog thread already and will add to them as I progress with my attempts to conquer this heel variation.

Droopage, if you coined the word you deserve recognition for it. It's a great word. The girdle is good too. My comment about foot fitting and not getting droopage might not apply to the yarn you're using. I looked later at the yarn, it's just to drool over!

Yes, short rows make great toes, they are useful in many places including heels but heels really need more yarn in them. My short row heels aren't holding up very well, the strain on the stitches makes them look thin and worn, the Fleegle heel is fine with no real signs of wear but it just doesn't feel as good as the cushy flap at the back.

Beautiful! And there's no such thing as "just another pair of socks"!! Incidentally, where do you host your photos? I like to browse at work during lunch breaks, but I can never see your photos form there, only from home.

I've done one heel this way. One down, one to go. It was easy once I just did it. Thank you for giving me something new to try.

Wanna see?

most of my photos are from my FaceBook page, occasionally I have some at photobucket. it's odd that you can't see them from your work computer. perhaps they block FaceBook?

Those are gorgeous, and you're right; it is difficult to photograph ones own feet!

Here are (hosted by photobucket) the asked-for close ups of the heel, toe, and arch girdle, gracefully modeled by my left hand, as photographing one's own foot from these angles proved excessively acrobatic for this grandma of eight. :D

the back of the heel (upside down)

a side view of the heel (and a nice shot of the dust on my keyboard)

the short-row toe

the anti-droopage arch girdle

Lovely, Moni, just beautiful! I really like the FOtos on your feet but the closeups show just how beautifully made you socks really are. Thank you! I know getting good pics of socks is a bit challenging at best.

I think I got the one successfully heel turned "right" as it does look very similar to yours. Similar, not as beautifully done. I keep practicing, maybe I'll get there someday. One more question. Did you change needle sizes for the girdle rib? I've either decreased the number of stitches for that section or changed down a size or two on my needles. TIA
