Oh what a nice idea! I clicked your other links and was able to see the texturized squares more closely! Very nice work!

FYI: Sometimes if you take a photo from an angle, it shows up the stitch definition better.

What yarn did you use? Did you just use different colors of the same yarn for all the states? And...did you knit them all separately then graft/sew them together? I've done a few of those states for dishcloths and have thought about trying to write them all out as one pattern so I can make a blanket in one piece. Hmmmmm...might take a while
