Seems like 189 sts would be wider than 13". At any rate if it's 13" a 24" cable would be fine and wouldn't curl. Even a 32" would probably be okay. What size are you using?

Aha! I figured out where you got CO 189.

Unless OP is using much smaller needles with the RHSS, I still don't see the size coming out to 13" (85 sts worked with sz 10/6mm needles). Maybe I aslo picked up on the wrong bit of data.
