Magic Loop
I am trying to learn the Magic Loop method for knitting baby hats. I understand the whole concept but I am ending up with extra loops/stitches on my needles at the beginning of the round and at the middle. I am pretty sure this is because I have the working yarn in the wrong place. I know it's not supposed to be in the middle of the work. I have looked at many videos and tutorials but none seems to address exactly where the working yarn should be...like a close up photo. I am sure this is a simple fix but even though I am not a beginner knitter I can't figure this out. And grand babies #6 and #7 are due soon

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or photos or links which would help zoom in on my error!

When you're knitting in the round your working yarn will always be on the right needle.

What happens sometimes when you're knitting in the round is your left needle can accidentally pick up the strand between two stitches which is an increase. Do you think that might be the problem?

Is this one of the videos you watched? It's where I learned to do ML. She specifically addresses where the yarn should go. I pull the cable through before turning the needles, but that's personal preference.

I have a feeling you are inadvertently going around some of the cord as well. I would advise going back to watch the video again just to be sure you have it right.

Hi Grumpy Grandma! Yes, I did! I think I watched so many videos and read so many tutorials I got confused by the different methods of explanation and too many details. I kept thinking that it should be an easy thing once I figured it out and it is! I found this simple video to be the most helpful:

Thanks again!
