SSK (I think)

I've been knitting for a couple of months and am now doing dishcloths that are supposed to have heart shapes in them. The pattern calls for SSK, then knit 2 together and and although I seem to be doing the stitches correctly, I don't see any patterns appearing in the dishcloth. Could my tension be too tight? I know the little holes are supposed to make the shapes, but they aren't there!

It sounds like you're neglecting to do a yarn over (yo) adjacent to each decrease!
