pattern woes (again)... need help...
This teddy bear pattern says it's for beginners, but I don't think they're right about that!

Ok, so the last time I asked about help with this pattern, it was to reverse shapings to match one side of the face to the other. Well, I conquered that with your help, so I'm hoping that you can help me decifer this next part on the gusset of the head.

I have worked the decrease row as written with no problems, but then it tells me to do this:
Quote:
Dec in this way at each end of 2 foll 4th rows and next 2 RS rows. 4 sts.
I'm starting out with 12 stitches on my needles, and each decrease row decreases by 2. So, how do I translate this to get from my 12 sts down to my 4 sts?

Would this mean I'd just purl my next row, knit a row, purl a row, then work the decrease row; repeat one more time, then decrease on my next two RS rows?

TIA!

You've translated that exactly.

Work three rows in pattern then decrease on the next row. So as you said:

1. Purl
2. Knit
3. Purl
4. decrease (knit) (10 stitches left)

Repeat (8 stitches left) and then assuming your knit side is RS

1. Purl
2. decrease (6 stitches left)
3. Purl
4. decrease (4 stitches left)

I always find it easier to write out each section of my pattern as I did above. It really helps me keep track of where I'm at and what I have to do next!

Thank you so much for validating my decifering of this part of the pattern. The last thing that I wanted to do is to go ahead with it, only to find out that I was wrong and have to frog it, or even worse, start the gusset over!

I'm happy to help!

I'm the same as you, I have to know I've got things exactly right before I knit. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my knitting!
