knit through the back loop
Hi, I'm new to knitting and was wondering what the difference was between knit and knit through the back loop. Are they the same? Please someone help.

No, they're not the same.

A stitch on the needle has a front and back side to the loop. It goes up the front, over the top of the needle, and down the back.

A regular knit stitch is knit through the front side of the loop. When you knit through the back side of the loop instead, the finished stitch is twisted once. It's used for both decorative or funtional reasons.

Hope this helps!
