Playing and need help:

Today is my one week anniversary of knitting and I thought I would take the time to go back and learn the slip knot and the cast on to be sure that I got it down pat and I think I do.
As long as I casted on 24 stitches I thought I would make a scarf to go with the hat I just finished. I was going to knit one and purl one.
I just did the first row of knitting and when I go to do the next row I'm seeing purl stitches. The working yarn has to be on the top and to the I right? So every time I start a row I would just keep knitting and it would end up knit/purl......knit/purl???????
Am I confused or what>>>>>>>>???????????? LOL,

I enjoy reading, quilting (started 10/11/2003), bread baking, purse making, making fabric bowls. I use to macramé and decorate cakes.
I started hand knitting (10/01/2005) and got my embroidery machine for Christmas 2005. I had 2 Bond Incredible Sweater Machines given to me in Feb. of 2007 that I'm really enjoying.
