anybody use the felting fibers?

i was wondering if you can needle felt applique'onto a swearter thats not felted?

I would think the sweater would have to be wool too??? I'm sure someone else who really knows will comment.

well my initial thought was that i couldn't see why not. but then i am not sure. i am not certain that the surface would be "tense" enough to poke the needle into repeatedly like that. and i think that the needle would trash the yarn that hadn't been felted. i don't know maybe you can knit a small swatch and then try to needle it and see what happens.
