I have to share my KH story, too...
My very first project was a pair of mittens for my MIL last Christmas - I saw m1 in the pattern and freaked out - my how to knit book had nothing about something called m1, and when I searched online, I came up with a lot of computer programming junk... in desperation I searched for "knitting + how-to" and this was the first site that was listed. Not only did I immediately learn what an m1 was, I was blown away by the free patterns page and spent hours browsing through all the links. Once I saw all the things I could make (my knitting book was published in the eighties, and all the patterns in it reflected that  ) I was hooked... And once I found the forum, it was even better. I had to take a break from knitting while I packed and prepared to move, but the forum was great, and really helped me feel like I had some friends during the very lonely first months in our new home.
The people really make

I agree--you should get the prize for starting this site. We certainly don't need incentive to post!

Thank YOU!
