Decreasing Question

I am knitting a hat on circular needles. The pattern says to decrease 5 evenly across round. What does this mean??

Say you had 30 stitches and you need to decrease it by 5 as your pattern says...that means you'll want to end up with 25 sts. Then the evenly part would be 30/5=6...so you would do your decrease every 6 stitches...meaning knit together the 5th and 6th sts, the 11th and 12th sts and so on.
