scarf curling up...help!

I am knitting a scarf for my Mom but it is curling up on the sides. Is there a way to fix this besides starting over?

Depending on the fabric (it works better with natural fibers), you can try blocking it to get it to go flat.

It will also depend on the stitch you are using. Stocking stitch will guarantee it will curl, if that's the case then you may want to look at other stitches, or at least a none st st border.

If you don't feel like clicking the link, here's the gist. You can try to block it into being flat by wetting it and pinning the edges flat against something like a styrofoam board. You can try to go back and add a border to see if that will help to uncurl it. But the only way you can be absolutely certain of having a non-curly scarf is to redo it with a gaerter or seed stitch border.

I looked at this thread because my one and only completed knitted object so far was a scarf that most definitely rolled... but I'm really posting to say: tab, I love your signature line!!!! :D

Here's an old and forgetten thread that offer several good solutions on the top half of the first page. Also, if you crochet, a crocheted border is a good substitute for a seed-stitch or garter-stitch border, and you can work it easily after the fact. Or pick-up sts and knit a garter stitch border. best of luck!
