Can I convert this crochet pattern to knit?

This is a really simple looking thing :

Chapstick Holder
Here's a similar one

It's just a little holder for chapstick, and you add a ring so it will attach to a keychain.

I would really like to make one for my DH... does anyone know how I could convert this to knit?

I'm a new knitter so I don't think I know how to do it myself

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I haven't made anything for my DH yet and I think he would like it that I thought of him.

hmm...I think that if you knit a swatch with whatever yarn you have and see how many stitches to the inch you get, you could measure the chapstick and then see how many stitches that would take, and cast on that amount, and knit and join on DPNs. Knit until it's long enough and make a buttonhole loop

Umm, why don't you try to crochet it? Look up "how to crochet" on about.com. I taught myself to crochet from a book years ago (it's WAY easier than knitting).

I realize that the point is that you want to KNIT something, so here's my idea. Using small needles, knit a rectangle approximately 6" x 2 1/2", fold in half lengthwise and seam the two sides. You'll probably have to tweak the measurements to get it to fit snugly around the chapstick. (I did measure one, but everybody's tension is different.) You could just make a braid out of three or more strands of yarn and tie it to the rim for the loop.

i crocheted one of these once, it was so cute, and it worked like a charm! and it only took about 15 minutes to do!

Hey, you know, it just occurred to me that I could make one of these using double-knit, eh?

So I have cast on 4 stitches, and am doing knit / slip as if to purl, knit / slip as if to purl, over and over.

I think it's just about the right size, I wish I had some chapstick here to try it on! DH should be back soon.
