Hiatus due to pain
Well, as the result of a badly positioned computer mouse, a rotator cuff strain, and a 15 lb baby who likes to be carried a lot, knitting has been feeling a bit ..... uncomfortable. This sucks so badly I can't even say.
My husband (who is a medical student and training osteopath) has suggested taking a few days break from knitting, during which I can do other activities (heroin came to mind).
I might not even go to my beloved SNB tonight. The strain will be too much. I knitted a small swatch this AM, and it didn't feel great. So I'm trying to take it easy on the computer and with knitting.
Since this was my primary form of grief therapy, the heroin idea might become a reality. And if y'all see me on the nightly news, being cuffed and stuffed due to an act of insanity as the result of not knitting .... well, forgive me.
I'm going to go and pout, read EZ and stroke my Malabrigo .... :crying: :crying:

:( :( How awful! Hopefully rest will help, but the heroin sounds like a viable alternative in the meantime. :rofling: It is a painkiller, after all, so you can knit, shoot up, and not care!

I'm beginning to understand a bit how a smoker feels when they quit cold turkey. I've been a royal b*tch all day!!!
I should get off the computer. *sigh*

Good grief!! I cannot imagine--hope you like to read....maybe you can at least READ about knitting!! Maybe this is a good time for you to take a few moments each day to catch up with some posts you might have missed sometime!! I know your mouse has been bad, but maybe you can maneuver carefully til you can cast on again!! I always love catching up on things people are doing, even if I can't knit right then.
Hope you're over it soon!! :XX:

I cant stress it enough, but if you can't I understand.
Get a massage from someone who knows the rotator cuff muscles and let them do some pressure work on your shoulder.

I've heard a lot of knitters talk about these http://www.berroco.com/handeze_glove.html
I don't know how severe your problem is, but they seem to help with carpal problems. You might want to check it out. I know they're available at sites other than Berroco, too.

I relate only too well! I'm needing to take a break from knitting, in fact, my DIL and husband point to my obsessive knitting as cause for my pain. Perhaps they're tired of hearing me whine.
My pain is in the uppermost part of my right arm. I think it's been aggravated by carrying my 19-month-old granddaughter, and as you mentioned, by moving the mouse.
My left hand is extremely painful in the first joint below my wrist, between the thumb and wrist. This hurts so much I was unable to help granddaughter put on her socks yesterday. That's when my DIL pointed at knitting.
I hope you're able to find solace in something else, although when you're a knitting enthusiast, everything else pales in comparison.
Good luck to you.
Kathy

If I knit for long periods, which I always do, it seems--my right shoulder starts to hurt, then my neck and finally my jaw and temple and I have a SCREAMING headache!!! But I have chronic pain and I'm used to it.....so I try to get up and move my shoulders around before I get this way.

Oh! Knittingdoula! I'm so sorry.
I'm sure Ingrids advice is tempting. But we need you for the long haul, so take a break. I miss you.
