Would it be ok to switch the cast on?

I'm getting ready to start on one of these socks and it calls for a cable cast on. I know it's not very stretchy, so would it be ok if I used the long tail instead? Would it change anything?

i never use anything but long tail unless i need the provisional. i used the long tail on my socks and just made sure i cast on over two needles. they seem stretchy enough to me.

I think they might call for cable cast-on because it's a little prettier than long-tail. But I always use long-tail for socks and it works just fine. :D
